California Casualty Has Money for School Athletic Programs
San Mateo, CA (PRWEB) October 02, 2017
The race for a 2018 Thomas R. Brown Athletics Grant from California Casualty is now on. Public high schools and middle schools in need of financial help for their sports programs are urged to apply at http://www.calcasathleticsgrant.com. Applications must be received by January 15, 2018 for consideration for the 2017/2018 academic year. Qualifying teams can score up to $3,000.
The grant is named for California Casualty Chairman Emeritus Tom Brown, who understands that valuable lessons such as pride and confidence lead to success in the classroom and in the community.
Last year, athletes at 79 public middle and high schools from 33 states shared $83,000 in athletic grants from California Casualty. Many of the schools face economic challenges and have experienced financial reductions to their sports programs. The funds helped the schools purchase much needed athletic equipment, offset participation fees, and improve athlete safety.
Examples of how the grants were used include:
- Purchase of direly needed new uniforms for the George Washington Preparatory High School, California, girls volleyball team
- Provide specialized equipment allowing more athletes to compete with the Berg Middle School Special Olympics track and field team in Newton, Iowa
- Supply new uniforms for the Benson High School, Minnesota, fast pitch softball team
- Replace aged hurdles for the Griswold High School, Connecticut, track team
- The $200 Help Your Classroom monthly grants, http://www.calcas.com/help-your-classroom
- The NEA Foundation/California Casualty Award for Teaching Excellence given to educators to honor and promote excellence in education and to elevate professionalism. Winners receive $650 for their schools, http://www.neafoundation.org/pages/nea-foundation-awards/
Founded in 1914, California Casualty provides auto and home insurance to educators, law enforcement officers, firefighters and nurses. Learn more by calling 1.800.800.9410 or visiting http://www.calcas.com.
