COACH CELEBRATES 85TH ANNIVERSARY WITH SPRING 2027 COLLECTION
"For Coach's 85th anniversary, I was thinking about memory and the way familiar things change as we live with them," said Coach Creative Director
The collection draws on archetypes that have shaped Vevers's vision for Coach, including the trench coat, leather jacket, tuxedo, bias-cut dress and Western boot. Tailoring has slim, classical proportions, with clean shoulders, narrow sleeves and trousers that fall and pool at the ankle. The silhouettes bring a more restrained sense of polish to the street and countercultural references that have long informed Vevers's work.
Outerwear includes overcoats, blazers and trenches with inside-out constructions that reveal their linings and internal structure. Soft, subtly grained nappa leather gives the pieces movement, while kisslock pockets refer to hardware from Coach's leather goods history. Other jackets and trenches are made from garment-dyed, sun-faded heavyweight jersey. The material gives traditional tailoring the softness of a cherished old hoodie.
Bias-cut dresses and skirts create a continuous line through the collection. They appear in repurposed garment-printed lining fabrics, overdyed georgette, repurposed denim, lamé and sequins, with each material giving a different character to the same essential silhouette. Visible facings, cut edges and decorative catch stitching leave parts of the process exposed. Knit and crochet sleeves can be added to dresses, tops and outerwear, giving the pieces a sense of improvisation.
The palette begins with dove gray, soft brown, black, white and natural leather tones before moving into periwinkle, powder pink, mint and reflective metallic finishes. Sequins shift from darker brown surfaces into softer pastel colors. Evening elements appear throughout the collection, allowing tailoring, leather, shine and bias-cut dresses to move freely between day and night.
The anniversary is also present through the suggestion of a party that may already have taken place. Leather is rubbed with gold and silver metallic foil, confetti is worked into the surfaces of bags and shoes, and glitter is mixed with red nail polish to create cracked, hand-finished effects. Crowns, pointed hats, bows, gifts and birthday cards are recreated in leather with the same attention given to the house's bags and outerwear.
Repurposing remains part of the collection's construction and material language. Secondhand leather garments and denim are reworked into new pieces, using existing materials in place of new ones. Repurposed lining fabrics appear in inside-out tailoring, dresses, tops and pants, while vintage Coach pouches are assembled into new bags.
Leather goods include the new Turnlock Tote, inspired by a Coach design from 1970 and featuring the turnlock hardware introduced by the house's first lead designer,
Footwear includes the new Hudson sneaker, with the slim proportions of a 1970s tennis shoe, and a slouchy Western boot in calf leather. Metallic rub-off finishes, confetti and glitter-and-nail-polish treatments give the shoes the feeling of customized, one-of-one pieces.
Jewelry is reduced to a small group of expressive objects. Crystal pendants inspired by chandelier prisms and Art Deco watch cases are suspended from leather cords and worn as necklace charms. A bow brooch refers to the top of a wrapped present. Leather accessories include crowns and pointed party hats with tassels and pom-poms, wrapped gifts, birthday cards, gift tags and a series of everyday objects that might be found inside a Coach bag, including sunglasses, a newspaper, a pen, a postcard, keys and a whistle.
Before the presentation, guests entered an expansive, dimly lit interior arranged with small tables, where they could read the collection notes in leather-wrapped folios designed to evoke bar menus and sip on sparkling wine or a Coach 85, a special anniversary cocktail made with Tanqueray gin.
