ACCLAIMED ANIMATED SUPERHERO SHORT WILL BECOME A FEATURE

Cutting Edge Animation, Emmy Winner Keith David, Whoopi Goldberg, and Other Celebrities Bring Award-winning Viral Animated Short 'Captain Zero' to the Big Screen.

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 17, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Cutting Edge Animation has announced that their acclaimed animated short series, Captain Zero: Into The Abyss, is being made into a full-length animated feature and will start production in 2027.

On board to executive produce is EGOT winner Whoopi Goldberg and the film will feature the voiceover talents of Angelica Ross, Larenz Tate, and Emmy Award winner Keith David.

A project ten years in the making, the Captain Zero universe expands on the themes of teen empowerment, BIPOC heroism, mental health awareness, self-worth, environmentalism, and compassion. States Co-Director Z Cher-Aime, "This is not your typical superhero story; Captain Zero champions underrepresented people—instilling in fans that which makes us different, and embracing those differences IS our superpower." He further states, "We hope this film gives people hope and the power to speak up and take action for what is just, especially now."

In the film, a super powered teen, desperate to be seen in a world that demands he stay invisible, battles both the living embodiment of his depression and a homicidal cyber stalker hellbent on destroying him and his city.

The most recent Captain Zero short, Into The Abyss Part 2, had its world premiere at the 2025 Tribeca Film Festival and debuted this summer on AMC+. It is also a Chicago Emmy nominee and 3X Telly Award winner.

To help offset the film's production costs and create a printed comic book series, the producers have set up a Kickstarter campaign.
