A.M.BestTV: Insurer Panel: Medical Professional Liability Insurance Facing Continued Change

May 11, 2015 3:01 PM EDT

OLDWICK, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- This episode of A.M.BestTV looks at a recent webinar where a panel of medical and insurance professionals discussed new issues that are emerging in the medical professional liability insurance market (MPLI). Click on http://www.ambest.com/v.asp?v=mpliwebinar515 to view the video program.

A.M. Best’s Managing Senior Financial Analyst Charles Huber described the MPLI market as being stable but changing. “A.M. Best sees physicians moving out of private practice and into hospital employment and groups; as a result, many changes are taking place in tort reform, cyber liability and the healthcare delivery systems.”

Brian Atchinson, president and chief executive officer at The Physician Insurers Association of America addressed how these changes will impact the MPLI market in the future. “Right now it is a very competitive market, with a lot of pressure on pricing, but the uncertainty about the future and the enormous changes that are already taking place has produced an atmosphere where no one really knows how this is going to play out in the next three to five years,” he said.

Webinar panelists also include:

  • Joseph Moody, president and chief executive officer at Healthcare Services Group; and
  • Mary-Lou Misrahy, president and chief executive officer at Physicians Insurance a Mutual Company.
