A.M. BestTV: As Cities Expand, So Do Their Risks
OLDWICK, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- This A.M.BestTV episode explores how the continuing growth of cities worldwide is creating greater exposure to health, catastrophe and market risks. Click on http://www.ambest.com/v.asp?v=cities1215 to view the entire program.
Lloyd’s of London estimates 301 cities face $4.56 trillion in economic losses from 18 potential threats. Inga Beale, chief executive officer of Lloyd’s, discusses the evolving insurance landscape. “We’re living in a changing world. As insurers, you should be part of supporting society, supporting growth, supporting businesses and governments. We want to look at (the risk landscape) and how we can be part of that.”
As emerging economies grow, competition for insurers is also increasing. “There has been a lot of talk about the protection gap, resiliency, and global markets and how that’s a growth opportunity,” Said Jim Bichard, a partner at PwC. However, he said that insurers need to focus on raising awareness and the new opportunities, rather than the competition.
