Trump announces nine more pharma firms in drug pricing deals

President Donald Trump announced agreements with nine additional pharmaceutical manufacturers to lower prescription drug prices in line with most-favored-nation (MFN) pricing, according to a White House statement dated August 31, 2026.

The new agreements bring the total number of manufacturers with MFN deals to 26, which the administration says covers 89% of the branded drug market. The nine companies are Alcon, Astellas Pharma, BeOne Medicines, BridgeBio, CSL, Kyowa Kirin, Sun Pharma, Teva Pharmaceuticals, and UCB.

Under the agreements, all state Medicaid programs will gain access to MFN pricing on products made by the nine companies. The Council of Economic Advisers estimates total savings from MFN deals could reach $600 billion over the next decade.

The nine companies have collectively committed to invest at least $19.6 billion in U.S. manufacturing. Several companies also agreed to donate active pharmaceutical ingredients to the Strategic Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients Reserve (SAPIR). UCB will contribute 163 tons of levetiracetam, Sun Pharma will contribute 71.4 tons of clindamycin and 6.75 tons of doxycycline, Teva Pharmaceuticals will contribute 45 metric tons of metronidazole and 4.8 tons of amlodipine, and Astellas will contribute 25 kg of tacrolimus.

The administration stated that since the February 2026 launch of TrumpRx, patients have saved more than $700 million on medicines. The White House also reported that more than 500,000 seniors have saved a combined $216 million on GLP-1 obesity medications since a $50-per-month access program launched in July 2026.

The first MFN agreement was reached with Pfizer on September 30, 2025, following an executive order signed May 12, 2025, directing the administration to align U.S. drug prices with those paid by comparable nations.
