ZPC Selects Lummus Technology for World's Largest PDH Unit

Landmark project underscores market momentum and customer confidence in CATOFIN technology

HOUSTON, Sept. 10, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Lummus Technology has been awarded a contract by Zhejiang Petroleum & Chemical Co., Ltd. (ZPC) to license its CATOFIN™ propane dehydrogenation (PDH) technology for a new unit in Zhejiang Province, China. The unit will have a capacity of 1.2 million metric tons per annum, making it the world's largest licensed PDH unit.

Advancing strategic relationship with ZPC
ZPC and its affiliates have long relied on Lummus technologies across their operations, licensing technologies including CDAlky^®, ISOCRACKING, DPC and butadiene extraction. This marks the first time ZPC has selected Lummus' PDH technology as it previously used an alternative PDH process, a decision that underscores the depth of the partnership.

ZPC will use the propylene produced from the new unit to support the production of high-value petrochemical derivatives, leveraging additional propane feedstock available from ongoing upstream refinery expansions.

ZPC's selection reflects broader global momentum behind CATOFIN technology for large-scale PDH projects. The CATOFIN process, developed by Lummus in partnership with catalyst partner Clariant, combines industry-leading process technology with advanced catalyst systems. Together, Lummus and Clariant provide an integrated solution that enables high propylene yields, operational reliability and cost efficiency.

Recently, CATOFIN has been selected for a majority of PDH awards, with several large-scale CATOFIN units starting up and meeting or exceeding all the performance targets and process guarantees.
