PTI Helps Bring Scope 3 Ambitions into Daily Freight Operations
RNG-powered trucks demonstrate how carriers and shippers can work together to reduce transportation-related emissions while moving critical goods.
The fleet of eight trucks, powered by Cummins X15N natural gas engines, moves paperboard and recovered fiber through Graphic Packaging's supply chain while providing real-world insight into the performance of alternative fuels in day-to-day operations.
"Consistent with our Better, Every Day approach to continuous improvement, we're focused on innovative, data-driven solutions that support operational excellence, strengthen customer supply chains and help inform our efforts to address Scope 3 emissions across our value chain," said
The fleet is part of Graphic Packaging's broader initiative to improve logistics efficiency while strengthening sustainable supply chains through carrier partnerships, alternative fuels, network optimization and smarter freight movement.
A Natural Gas Leader Since 2010
PTI has been an early pioneer in natural gas transportation, launching its first natural gas fleet in 2010. Since then, PTI has accumulated more than 87 million natural gas miles, serving dedicated shippers across a variety of industries, including paper and packaging, consumer packaged goods (CPG), and manufacturing, as well as 4PLs and logistics providers seeking alternate-fuel strategies for their supply chains.
"We're proud to support Graphic Packaging's sustainability journey with RNG-powered equipment that helps reduce emissions without sacrificing performance or reliability," said
Clean Energy: Delivering Renewable Fuel That Drives Measurable Reductions
Clean Energy, the RNG fuel provider supporting this project, plays a pivotal role in delivering the environmental benefits of the new fleet. RNG is one of the most impactful near-term tools for freight decarbonization, offering up to 90% lower lifecycle GHG emissions than diesel and, in some cases, achieving negative carbon intensity when sourced from agricultural or waste-recovery systems. RNG also offers greater fuel-price stability compared with diesel.
"We are thrilled to be working with two forward-thinking companies in the shipper and carrier space to help them affordably reach their sustainability goals. By choosing to fuel with clean-burning RNG, Graphic Packaging is taking immediate steps to see meaningful carbon reductions – and paired with Cummins' X15N, the fleet will have performance and range like a diesel fleet, but operate 40% cleaner, and do all this on a fuel that costs less than diesel. This partnership shows how companies across the supply chain can team up and work together to make a significant impact now," said
