OBM and Revolution Mining Achieve CLR Qualification Milestone in Texas
Partnership successfully passes ERCOT's most stringent grid control requirements, setting new industry standard for flexible load management and unlocking growth for
The CLR qualification represents a breakthrough in energy agility for bitcoin mining, with Revolution Mining passing ERCOT's most demanding power grid control requirements. The achievement required precise technical integration between OBM's Foreman mine management software, Priority Power Management's grid interface systems, and Revolution Mining's customized mining infrastructure.
Technical Precision Meets Grid Control
ERCOT's CLR program required Revolution Mining's facility to respond to frequency changes within 15 seconds and adjust to power targets every 5 minutes with linear load transitions. Unlike traditional demand response programs, CLR gives ERCOT direct bidirectional control to both increase and decrease loads in real-time based on grid conditions.
"CLR functions as a negative megawatt program, improving grid resilience and essentially increasing generation capacity without building new plants," said
The qualification process included extensive testing phases including Primary Frequency Response (PFR) testing followed by live SCED validation with ERCOT monitoring performance in real-time.
"The testing process was incredibly rigorous, but it demonstrated that our Foreman platform can meet the most demanding grid control requirements," noted Lawrence. "This positions us to serve other mining operations and data centers facing similar scaling challenges as utilities increasingly require controllable load capabilities."
Unlocking Growth and Market Access
For Revolution Mining, the CLR qualification removes a critical growth constraint. Texas New Mexico Power (TNMP) had capped the facility at 2 megawatts until Revolution could demonstrate controllable load capabilities.
"By us passing ERCOT's strictest program, TNMP is now releasing the remaining 13 megawatts to us, enabling a seven-fold expansion of our operations" explained
"Few Bitcoin mining data centers can show full ERCOT CLR qualification, diversified cooling strategies, and the option to scale rapidly. This combination uniquely positions Revolution Mining for long-term growth, strategic partnerships, and potential acquisition opportunities in a consolidating industry," said Nersessian.
Industry Partnership Enables Success
The success required close collaboration between multiple stakeholders. OBM's development team created custom integration code, while Revolution Mining installed specialized firmware and hardware including Priority Power's Real-Time Automated Controller (RTAC) device for grid communication.
