University executives receive average raises of 16.7% in 2025, while police are offered 0% in three ‑ year contract proposal

They respond to medical emergencies, protect students and faculty, investigate incidents, enforce the law, and routinely place themselves in challenging and dangerous situations. Their work is essential to the functioning of the campus. They also serve as a valued resource for the overall safety of those who live, work and visit
Yet MIT's message to its police officers during negotiations appears to be: Take zero now, and hope for something later.
This position is not only disrespectful—it is indefensible. MIT has the financial capacity to fairly compensate its police officers. The Institute's endowment reached
MIT officers show up every day to protect students, faculty, staff, and visitors. They respond to crises, support students in vulnerable moments, and keep the campus safe 24/7. Offering officers a 0% raise while executives receive double‑digit increases sends a clear message about whose work MIT values—and whose it does not. The MIT community deserves better.
The MIT Police Association urges MIT leadership to return to the bargaining table with a fair and respectful offer that reflects the critical role officers play in keeping the campus safe.
