Held during the high-level week of the United Nations General Assembly, the summit emphasized measurable business action and collaboration across value chains. Procurement was a key focus, with discussions examining how purchasing decisions and supplier relationships can strengthen resilience and competitiveness as companies navigate regulatory change and fragmented trade.
Helping suppliers put sustainability into practice
She outlined a "3E" approach: Educate, Engage and Empower. Educate translates sustainability targets into clear requirements. Engage brings procurement, research and development, manufacturing, suppliers and customers into two-way collaboration. Empower combines tools, training and commercial incentives to help partners improve. The approach maintains common expectations while recognizing that suppliers need implementation pathways suited to their capabilities and circumstances.
"Sustainability should become a capability that companies build together with their partners, translated into everyday actions that can be measured, verified and continuously improved," said Ying He.
Dongpeng has integrated environmental, social and governance considerations into supplier onboarding, evaluation and procurement decisions, and has provided dedicated training to more than 20 core suppliers. This work connects purchasing requirements with practical support for the companies expected to meet them.
Turning industrial residues into building materials
Dongpeng also shared its work with supply chain partners to develop non-fired eco-stone using discarded ceramics and mineral residues. By combining suppliers' material knowledge with its manufacturing and design capabilities, the company is exploring applications in panels and urban furniture.
The work connects resource recovery with product development and potential demand from construction and urban projects. Alongside efforts to reduce energy use, emissions and waste in conventional ceramic production, Dongpeng is exploring further collaboration with cities, architects and industry partners to apply these materials in public spaces and urban renewal.
