Village Farms International (NASDAQ: VFF) has appointed Hamid Shekarchi as interim chief financial officer, effective immediately, according to a company statement. Shekarchi previously served as CFO of the company's Canadian cannabis business.
The appointment follows a succession plan the Vancouver-based company disclosed on April 3, 2026. Steve Ruffini, the outgoing CFO, will remain on the leadership team with a focus on mergers and acquisitions.
Shekarchi joined Village Farms in 2021 through its Pure Sunfarms subsidiary. In that role, he oversaw finance, accounting, and information technology, and was involved in the business combination of the company's Canadian subsidiaries Pure Sunfarms and Rose LifeScience. He has 18 years of finance, valuation, and transaction advisory experience.
Before joining Village Farms, Shekarchi co-led BDO's Western Canada cannabis practice, conducting business valuations across North America and Europe. He also held senior roles at BDO Canada and PwC, advising companies in manufacturing, mining, technology, and real estate. He holds a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA, CA) designation and a Chartered Business Valuator (CBV) designation, and is a graduate of Simon Fraser University.
CEO Michael DeGiglio said in the statement that Shekarchi has "deep institutional knowledge of the inner workings of our business, industry, technology and AI as well as our rapidly evolving competitive landscape."
