Upland Software Inc. (NASDAQ: UPLD) announced the appointment of Sean Nathaniel as chief executive officer, effective May 1, 2026. Jack McDonald, who founded the company in 2010, will continue serving as chairman of the board while stepping down from the CEO role.
Nathaniel previously held leadership positions at Upland from 2013 to 2020, including chief technology officer and executive vice president of Workflow Automation Solutions. He was part of the executive team during the company's initial public offering in 2014. Most recently, Nathaniel spent four years as president and CEO of DryvIQ, which provides AI-driven unstructured data management solutions.
"Sean is the right person to lead and accelerate Upland's continued AI transformation," McDonald stated. "He helped build the company from the ground up and has developed deep expertise at the intersection of AI and enterprise content, which is exactly where Upland's future lies."
Nathaniel said his priority as CEO will be to position Upland as "a core intelligence layer for the agentic enterprise, enabling customers to unlock the full value of their knowledge, content, and data as they scale AI and agent-driven operating models."
The Austin, Texas-based company describes itself as a provider of AI-powered knowledge and content management software. Upland reports serving more than 1,100 enterprise customers with solutions designed to automate content workflows and support regulatory compliance.
The leadership transition comes as Upland positions itself within the enterprise AI market, focusing on helping organizations manage and utilize their data and content assets.
