Smith Micro names Tim Huffmyer as next CEO, replacing Bill Smith

Smith Micro Software Inc. (NASDAQ: SMSI) announced that Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer Tim Huffmyer will become the company's next President and Chief Executive Officer, effective March 31, 2026.



Current CEO Bill Smith, who has led the company for 44 years, will transition to Executive Chairman. The leadership change follows succession planning conducted by Smith and the company's Board of Directors.



Huffmyer rejoined Smith Micro in June 2025 in his current dual role after previously serving as the company's CFO. During his tenure, he has overseen operational and financial responsibilities, including strategic initiatives and transformation efforts.



"This planned leadership transition reflects the Board's ongoing succession planning and commitment to continuity in leadership and disciplined execution," Smith said in a statement. "With Tim's demonstrated strategic, financial and operational performance, and deep understanding of our business, customer base, and employees, the Board is confident in his ability to lead the Company into its next phase of growth."



Huffmyer expressed gratitude for the opportunity, stating: "I am honored by the Board's confidence and grateful for the opportunity to build on the strong foundation we have established."



Smith Micro develops software solutions for wireless service providers, focusing on mobile experience enhancement and voice messaging capabilities. The Pittsburgh-based company expects the transition to proceed smoothly while maintaining business momentum.
