Moderna names Juan Andres as COO amid oncology expansion

Moderna, Inc. (NASDAQ: MRNA) has appointed Juan Andres as Chief Operating Officer, effective October 5, 2026, as the company adds the role to support its growing scale and product diversification.

Andres returns to Moderna after previously serving at the company from 2017 to 2023, where he held roles including Chief Technical Operations and Quality Officer and President of Strategic Partnerships and Enterprise Expansion. He led the build-out of Moderna's global manufacturing network during the COVID-19 vaccine rollout.

In his new role, Andres will report to Chief Executive Officer Stéphane Bancel and serve on the company's Executive Committee, overseeing manufacturing and company-wide execution.

The appointment coincides with Moderna's preparation for a potential launch of intismeran autogene, a cancer treatment jointly developed with Merck, following positive Phase 3 results. Moderna's infectious disease portfolio has also grown to five approved vaccines, including a recently FDA-approved seasonal flu vaccine and a flu-plus-COVID combination vaccine authorized by the European Commission.

Separately, Jerh Collins, Ph.D., Chief Technical Operations and Quality Officer, announced his retirement. Collins joined Moderna in October 2022 and became Chief Technical Operations and Quality Officer in January 2023. During his tenure, he helped transition the company's manufacturing operations for an endemic vaccine market and advanced facilities in the UK, Canada, and Australia. Before Moderna, Collins spent nearly 30 years at Novartis.
