Moderna Inc. (NASDAQ: MRNA) announced that David Berman will join the company as chief development officer on March 2, 2026. Berman will serve on Moderna's executive committee and report to Chief Executive Officer Stéphane Bancel.

Jacqueline Miller will step down as chief medical officer and executive committee member on the same date. Miller will remain as a consultant to assist with the transition, according to the company's statement.

Berman brings two decades of experience in oncology and infectious disease development. He most recently served as executive vice president and head of research and development at Immunocore, where he led development and approval of the first T cell receptor therapeutic. Prior to that role, he served as senior vice president and head of AstraZeneca's immuno-oncology franchise.

At Bristol-Myers Squibb, Berman held senior development positions including global clinical lead for the first approved immunotherapy checkpoint inhibitor and one of the first monoclonal antibodies for multiple myeloma. He also headed the company's early-stage immuno-oncology portfolio.

"David's leadership experience in oncology and infectious disease will be critical as we continue to invest and drive innovation across Moderna's pipeline," Bancel said in the statement.

Berman received his medical degree and doctorate from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. He completed pathology training at the National Cancer Institute and a fellowship at The Johns Hopkins Hospital.

The appointment comes as Moderna maintains three approved vaccines with three additional candidates in Phase 3 trials or filed for regulatory approval.
