Matrix Service Company (NASDAQ: MTRX) announced a leadership transition, appointing Shawn P. Payne as Chief Operating Officer effective immediately. Payne will assume the roles of President and Chief Executive Officer on June 30, 2026, when current President and CEO John R. Hewitt steps down.

The Tulsa-based energy and industrial contractor made the announcement as part of the board's succession planning process. John D. Chandler, Chair of the Board, stated that Hewitt expanded the company's scope and market capabilities during his tenure, transforming it from a company primarily focused on oil storage to an engineering, procurement and construction industrial contractor across energy and industrial markets.

Payne was recently named President of Engineering & Construction for Matrix Service Company. He previously served as President of Matrix Service Inc. and held other leadership positions including Senior Vice President of Operations and Senior Vice President of Finance and Business Services.

Payne joined Matrix Service in 2012 as Division Manager in Tucson, Arizona, leading the company's entry into the mining and minerals business. Before joining Matrix, he held leadership roles in operations, finance and project controls with Aker Solutions/Kvaerner and Jacobs. Hewitt and Payne have worked together for over 25 years, initially at a previous employer before Hewitt recruited Payne to Matrix.

Matrix Service Company operates across three key segments: Storage and Terminal Solutions, Utility and Power Infrastructure, and Process and Industrial Facilities. The company is headquartered in Tulsa with offices throughout the United States, Canada, Australia, and South Korea.
