KROGER names Greg Foran as chief executive officer

The Kroger Co. (NYSE: KR) appointed Greg Foran as chief executive officer, effective immediately, according to a company statement. Foran will also join Kroger's board of directors and succeeds Ron Sargent, who served as interim CEO since March 2025.

The appointment follows an extensive search process conducted by the board to identify a retail leader with experience in large-scale operations. Sargent will continue to serve as chairman of the board.

Foran brings more than 40 years of experience leading consumer businesses across five countries. He previously led Walmart U.S. for six years until 2019, where he oversaw more than 4,600 stores and one million associates. During his tenure at Walmart, the company reported positive comparable sales growth for 20 consecutive quarters.

Most recently, Foran served as chief executive officer of Air New Zealand for five years, where he led digital transformation initiatives and guided the airline through pandemic-related disruptions.

"Greg is a highly respected operator who knows how to run large-scale retail businesses, strengthen store execution, and lead high-performing teams," Sargent said in the statement.

Foran stated that Kroger "is one of the most dynamic companies in retail" and expressed his intention to work with the board and leadership team to deliver value for customers, associates, and shareholders.

The company will provide additional details about the leadership transition during its March 5 earnings call. Kroger reaffirmed its previously issued fiscal year 2025 guidance.

Kroger operates more than 2,700 retail food stores under various banners and serves over 11 million customers daily through its eCommerce and store platforms.
