Invivyd names Michael Mina as chief medical officer

Invivyd Inc. (NASDAQ: IVVD) appointed Michael Mina, M.D., Ph.D., as chief medical officer, the biopharmaceutical company announced.

Mina previously served as assistant professor of epidemiology, immunology, and infectious disease at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and pathology at Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Women's Hospital. He has also held chief science or chief medical officer positions at several diagnostics and digital health companies.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Mina advised U.S. federal and international governments on testing policies and helped lead the U.S. government's Home Test-to-Treat Program, which focused on improving treatment access for underserved populations for influenza and COVID-19.

His research includes work on measles virus pathology, where he led the discovery of "immune amnesia," a long-term consequence of measles infection that involves deletion of immunological antibody-based memory. Mina has conducted studies on immune system responses to vaccines and pathogens, particularly examining immunological memory development in childhood and pregnancy.

Mina has authored more than 100 scientific publications with 10,000 citations and has participated in hundreds of media interviews and op-eds, according to the company.

"Dr. Mina joins us at a critical time in American medicine and the evolution of infectious disease prophylaxis," said Marc Elia, chairman of the Invivyd board of directors.

Invivyd focuses on developing monoclonal antibodies for viral infectious diseases, beginning with SARS-CoV-2. In March 2024, the company received emergency use authorization from the U.S. FDA for a monoclonal antibody in its pipeline.
