Gouverneur Bancorp names Stephen Jefferies as new CEO
Gouverneur Bancorp, Inc. (OTCQB: GOVB) appointed Stephen M. Jefferies as president and chief executive officer of the company and its subsidiary Gouverneur Savings and Loan Association, effective September 2, 2025. Jefferies will also join both boards of directors.
Jefferies brings nearly 40 years of banking experience to the role. He most recently served as president and CEO of Community Bank & Trust in LaGrange, Georgia, from March 2022 to April 2025. Prior positions include chief lending officer at U.S. Eagle Federal Credit Union in Albuquerque, New Mexico, from April 2017 to March 2022, and senior vice president and chief lending officer at Flagship Community Bank in Clearwater, Florida, from June 2005 to April 2017.
"Steve brings nearly 40 years of experience in the banking industry, and a proven track record of financial leadership," said Clara P. Cummings, chair of the board of directors.
Charles C. Van Vleet, Jr. will retire as interim president and CEO on the same date Jefferies assumes the role. Van Vleet plans to remain with the company through December 31, 2025, to assist with the transition.
Gouverneur Bancorp is the holding company for Gouverneur Savings and Loan Association, a New York chartered savings and loan association founded in 1892. As of June 30, 2025, the company reported total assets of $196.7 million, total deposits of $159.4 million, and total stockholders' equity of $31.4 million.
