Disney names Karandeep Anand as its first chief technology officer

The Walt Disney Company (NYSE: DIS) announced that Karandeep Anand will join the company as Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer, a newly created position, effective October 2.

Anand, who most recently served as CEO of Character.AI, will report directly to Disney Chief Executive Officer Josh D'Amaro. Several members of Character.AI's technical team are also expected to join Disney as part of the move.

In the role, Anand will oversee enterprise technology, infrastructure, data and AI platforms, product, and engineering, working across the company's segment technology teams.

Before leading Character.AI, Anand served as President and Chief Product Officer at financial technology company Brex. He previously held the position of Vice President of Ads & Business Products at Meta's Facebook and spent 15 years at Microsoft, where he was part of the team that built the Azure platform. He holds a computer science degree from the International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad.

"Karandeep brings a rare mix of experience across infrastructure, consumer technology and AI, and will be a vital addition to Disney's senior leadership team," D'Amaro said.

Anand said he looks forward to "building on the company's impressive technology capabilities to help Disney connect fans worldwide with its beloved stories and characters in new and innovative ways."
