Civitas Resources names Wouter van Kempen interim CEO

Civitas Resources Inc. (NYSE: CIVI) announced that Wouter van Kempen, current chair of the board of directors, has been named interim chief executive officer. Van Kempen succeeds Chris Doyle, who is departing the company.



The board is implementing its leadership succession plan to identify a permanent CEO. Van Kempen has served as a board member since February 2023 and brings over 20 years of leadership experience in the energy industry.



During the transition period, Howard A. Willard III, a board member since 2021, will temporarily assume the role of board chair. Van Kempen is expected to resume his service as chair once a permanent CEO is identified.



Van Kempen previously served as chairman, president and chief executive officer of DCP Midstream GP, LLC from January 2013 until December 2022. Before joining DCP Midstream in August 2010, he held various positions at Duke Energy Generation Services from 2003 to 2010, including president from September 2006 to July 2010. He also worked at General Electric, where he became staff executive for corporate mergers and acquisitions in 1999.



Van Kempen holds a Masters in Business Economics from Erasmus University Rotterdam in the Netherlands. He currently serves as lead director for Engine No. 1, an investment firm focused on companies driving US reindustrialization.
