CASI Pharmaceuticals names David Cory as new CEO

CASI Pharmaceuticals Inc. (NASDAQ: CASI) appointed David Cory as Chief Executive Officer and board member, the company announced. Wei-Wu He will step down as CEO and remain as Executive Chairman of the Board of Directors.
Cory brings over 30 years of experience in biotech and pharmaceutical companies. He previously served as CEO of LIB Therapeutics, which completed Phase 3 trials for its cardiovascular disease program, and CEO of Eiger BioPharmaceuticals, which obtained FDA and EMA approval for a therapy treating Hutchinson-Gilford progeria syndrome.
Earlier in his career, Cory was a founding member of multiple startup companies including InterMune, CoTherix, and Prestwick Pharmaceuticals, which resulted in acquisitions totaling approximately $9 billion. He also held operational positions at The Upjohn Company and Glaxo-Smith Kline.
The company is developing CID-103, an anti-CD38 monoclonal antibody currently in a Phase 1/2 study for chronic immune thrombocytopenia. CASI received FDA clearance for the study in May 2024 and clearance from China's regulatory authorities in October 2024. The company has also filed a U.S. IND application for testing CID-103 in renal allograft antibody-mediated rejection.
"David's extensive operating background and capital markets experience make him the ideal candidate to lead the CASI U.S. business," He stated in the announcement.
Cory holds a BS in Pharmacy from the University of Cincinnati and an MBA from the University of Maryland. CASI Pharmaceuticals is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on developing therapeutics for hematology oncology, organ transplant rejection, and autoimmune diseases.
