Athene, a subsidiary of Apollo Global Management (NYSE: APO), has appointed Larik Hall as Senior Vice President and Head of Japan, according to a company statement.
Hall, who will be based in Japan, brings more than 30 years of experience in the retirement industry, including more than a decade working in the Japanese market. Before joining Athene, he served as a Managing Director at Goldman Sachs Ayco, where he led the insurance practice. He has also held senior roles at AIG, MetLife Alico, and MassMutual.
In his new role, Hall will oversee Athene's growth strategy for retirement solutions in Japan.
"Japan is one of the most important retirement markets globally, shaped by an aging demographic, a growing need for long-term retirement security and a new economic regime that has demanded a new playbook," said Grant Kvalheim, CEO of Athene.
Athene entered the Japanese market in 2020 and has since reinsured more than $20 billion in assets across eight transactions with Japanese cedents. The company reported $448 billion in total assets as of March 31, 2026, with operations in the United States, Bermuda, Canada, and Japan.
