Virgin America is adding to U.S. Airways (NYSE: LCC), AMR Corp.'s (OTCBB: AAMRQ) merger troubles.

Reuters said Monday that Virgin America filed to block a deal between US Air and AMR Corp. Virgin -- the newest airline to enter the U.S. -- said that a merger between the two companies would create a significant barrier for new entrants.

US Air and AMR Corp. are currently embroiled in negotiations with the U.S. over concessions that will need to happen in order for the deal to get regulatory approval. Trial is slated to begin at the end of November if no deal is reached.

Shares of US Air close higher today, while AMR Corp. ended own about 1 percent.
