Neonode Inc. (NASDAQ: NEON) announced it expects to receive approximately $15 million to $20 million in net proceeds from a patent lawsuit settlement between Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. and Neonode Smartphone LLC, a subsidiary of Aequitas Technologies LLC.
The lawsuit concerned alleged infringement of patents that Neonode assigned to Aequitas Technologies LLC in 2019. Under the terms of the May 6, 2019 assignment agreement, Neonode is entitled to 50 percent of any net proceeds from the settlement, despite not being a party to the lawsuit.
The expected proceeds range is after deducting a brokerage fee payable by Neonode in connection with the original patent assignment, plus estimated legal fees, taxes and other expenses. The company stated it will continue to evaluate tax implications and other financial considerations that may affect the final net amount.
As of September 3, 2025, Neonode's board of directors has not made any decision regarding the use of the expected settlement proceeds. The settlement details are subject to assessment by third parties, according to the company's statement.
