Microsoft (MSFT) Topples Motorola (GOOG) in Second Trial Over Industry Standards

Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) is positive Thursday morning following news that it won the second of two trials against Google's (Nasdaq: GOOG) Motorola Mobility unit.
According to Reuters, Microsoft was victorious against Motorola in licensing what are called standard and essential patents. Microsoft was awarded $14 million in damages, which was about half of what it asked for.

This is a landmark win for all who want products that are affordable and work well together.The company argued that Motorola's payment demands were above those aagreed to as reasonable and non-discriminatory terms (RAND) for a technologial standard.
