InterDigital Inc. (NASDAQ: IDCC) filed patent infringement lawsuits against television manufacturers Hisense and TCL, the company announced February 10. The litigation relates to patents covering HEVC, VP9 and AV1 video compression technologies, as well as high dynamic range technologies.

The cases were filed in multiple jurisdictions including the Munich Local Division of the Unified Patent Court, Munich Regional Court in Germany, Rio de Janeiro State Court in Brazil, and Delhi High Court in India. The patents are part of InterDigital's joint TV licensing program with Sony.

"Hisense and TCL are both top-five global TV manufacturers and have built their businesses on the back of research carried out by InterDigital engineers," said Josh Schmidt, Chief Legal Officer at InterDigital. "Our decades of investment in foundational research have helped change how we watch our favorite movies and shows, and Hisense and TCL cannot be allowed to continue to infringe our IP, particularly while many of their competitors have taken a license."

InterDigital develops wireless, video and artificial intelligence technologies and licenses its innovations to companies in communications and entertainment sectors. The company was founded in 1972 and trades on Nasdaq.
