US power output rises 6.1% year-over-year in latest week

Investing.com -- Power production across the continental United States reached 100,895 gigawatt hours in the week that ended on August 22, marking a 6.1% increase from the same period last year, according to data released by the Edison Electric Institute on Wednesday.

The weekly output decreased by approximately 0.6% compared to the previous seven-day period, which saw production of 101,498 GWh, the trade group reported.

Eight of the nine US geographic regions monitored by the institute showed year-over-year increases in power generation. New England posted the largest percentage gain at 13.4%, while the South Central region followed with a 10.1% rise.

The West Central region was the sole area to record a year-over-year decline, falling 2.9%. The Central Industrial region registered the smallest increase among regions with positive growth at 0.9%.

Total US power output over the past 52 weeks reached 4,365,212 GWh, representing a 2.2% increase from the prior 12-month period, the EEI stated.
