US open to Iran talks at UN General Assembly, Rubio says

Investing.com -- Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Tuesday that the United States remains willing to engage in discussions with Iranian officials during the UN General Assembly, though no formal meeting has been arranged.

Speaking on NBC's "Today" show, Rubio indicated the administration's readiness for dialogue if it could advance productive outcomes.

"We're open to that. I don't think anything is scheduled at this point, but we're certainly open to something like that, especially if it has the prospects of leading to something positive and ultimately achieving the goal of what this is all about," Rubio said.

He emphasized the core objective of any potential engagement with Iran.

"And that is the fact that Iran can never have a nuclear weapon. They just simply can't," Rubio stated.
