Tesla to introduce Semi electric truck in Europe

Investing.com -- Tesla will expand its Semi electric truck to Europe, moving beyond North America as it enters a heavy-duty vehicle market where competitors already offer battery-powered models.

The company said it will announce European specifications and launch details at the IAA Transportation trade fair in Hanover, Germany, next week, according to a post on X.

The European expansion comes nearly 10 years after Tesla first showed the Semi in 2017 with initial production planned for 2019. The timeline faced repeated delays as the company directed battery-cell supplies toward its passenger vehicles.

Tesla started limited deliveries to customers including PepsiCo in the United States in late 2022.

In April, Tesla said the first Semi came off a high-volume production line in Nevada. The company's July shareholder update stated that Semi production would begin in 2026, removing a previous forecast for volume production this year.

Tesla's German-language website shows a truck version with a range of up to 550 kilometers at a gross combination weight of 40 tonnes and energy consumption of about 1 kilowatt-hour per kilometer.

The truck weighs about 9,100 kilograms without a trailer or cargo and provides electric power take-off of up to 25 kW. The vehicle can recover about 60% of its range in 30 minutes using Tesla's Megacharger network, which can deliver up to 800 kilowatts.

Tesla listed route-based charging scheduling and dedicated service centers as features designed to reduce downtime.
