Investing.com -- Stellantis is testing a new diesel-hybrid powertrain for its large commercial vehicles in Europe, the Italian Uilm union said on Thursday following a meeting with the automaker.
The powertrain will be developed at the Pratola Serra engine manufacturing plant in southern Italy, which will supply the Stellantis van production facility in Atessa, Italy.
A Stellantis spokesperson said the diesel-hybrid powertrain remains in a testing phase with no established timeframe for its market launch.
The spokesperson added that the new powertrain is expected to be available in the next generation of vans produced in Atessa. The company has announced investments of €1 billion ($1.12 billion) for this project.
Stellantis sells large commercial vehicles under several brand names including Fiat Ducato, Peugeot Boxer and Citroen Jumper.
The Uilm union also stated that worker furloughs at Stellantis plants in Italy would be 30% lower this year compared to 2025.
