Investing.com - RTX Corp. (NYSE: RTX) has been awarded a $240,754,035 contract modification by the U.S. Department of Defense to support F-35 engine development and readiness improvements, the Pentagon announced today.
The cost-plus-incentive-fee and cost-plus-fixed-fee modification expands an existing contract to provide non-recurring engineering for the F135 engine. The work includes addressing operational issues, improving readiness, and supporting the transition of the engine core upgrade from risk reduction design review into engineering and manufacturing development. The contract also covers long-lead hardware for a spare test engine for the Air Force, Marine Corps, Navy, and F-35 Cooperative Program Partners.
Work will be performed across eight locations, with 53% in East Hartford, Connecticut, 15% in Indianapolis, Indiana, and smaller portions in Middletown, Connecticut, West Palm Beach, Florida, Windsor Locks, Connecticut, North Berwick, Maine, Rockford, Illinois, and Aguadilla, Puerto Rico. The work is expected to be completed in March 2028.
The Defense Department will obligate $87,574,189 in fiscal 2025 Air Force research and development funds, $87,574,190 in fiscal 2025 Navy research and development funds, and $39,008,976 in F-35 cooperative program partner funds at the time of award. The contract was not competitively procured.
Naval Air Systems Command in Patuxent River, Maryland, is the contracting activity. RTX's Raytheon subsidiary also received a separate $38,378,404 contract on Aug. 17, 2026, to maintain training software and procure hardware for the Army.
