Nvidia plans to test own robotaxis by 2027
Investing.com -- Nvidia unveiled plans on Monday to test a robotaxi service with a partner as soon as 2027, marking a significant step in the chipmaker’s push to become a key player in the self-driving car market.
The planned service would utilize vehicles equipped with "Level 4" driving capabilities, allowing them to operate without human intervention within pre-defined geographic areas. Nvidia has not yet disclosed the location of the service or identified its partner for this initiative.
"We will probably start with a limited availability but work with the partner for us to get our footing," said Xinzhou Wu, Nvidia’s vice president of automotive, during a self-driving demonstration held in San Francisco last month.
At the CES conference in Las Vegas on Monday, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang shared his vision for autonomous vehicles: "We imagine that someday, a billion cars on the road will all be autonomous. You could either have it be a robotaxi that you’re orchestrating and renting from somebody, or you could own it."
Huang has previously identified robotics, including self-driving cars, as the company’s second most important growth category after artificial intelligence.
