Micron Technology stock dropped 2.1% in morning trading Wednesday, reaching $837.16, as concerns about China's ChangXin Memory Technologies and its reported progress in advanced DRAM design weighed on the memory chip sector.
The decline reversed most of the previous session's 3.3% gain, which had been driven by positive memory pricing signals from Apple and SK Hynix.
ChangXin Memory Technologies, known as CXMT, announced development of a 4F² DRAM architecture, a vertical cell design that allows for more memory capacity in a smaller space compared to traditional chips. The company's president said CXMT plans to launch a server-memory product using this technology by the end of 2026.
The announcement raised concerns that increased Chinese DRAM supply could affect Micron's pricing power. DRAM represents approximately 73% of the company's revenue.
A Form 4 insider filing was submitted Wednesday, adding a minor element of uncertainty around insider activity.
