Investing.com -- The Massachusetts Institute of Technology filed a lawsuit against Amazon on Friday in Boston federal court, claiming Amazon Web Services infringes two of the university's patents related to data security technology.
MIT alleges in the complaint that AWS uses physical unclonable function technology to create unique cryptographic keys, which violates the university's patent rights. The PUF technology is based on innovations developed by an MIT professor, according to the lawsuit.
The lawsuit states that Amazon uses cloud-security technology provided by software company Synopsys that infringes on MIT's PUF patents. Synopsys is not named as a defendant in the case.
Amazon spokespeople did not respond to requests for comment on the complaint on Monday.
MIT is seeking an unspecified amount of monetary damages from Amazon. The university filed a similar patent infringement lawsuit against Microsoft in Texas in May, which remains pending.
The case is Massachusetts Institute of Technology v. Amazon Web Services Inc, US District Court for the District of Massachusetts, No. 1:26-cv-14600.
