Lumentum Holdings Inc. stock dropped 3.6% in morning trading on Wednesday, reaching $952.22. The decline extends a multi-day retreat that began on October 12, driven by a broader repricing across AI optical networking stocks.
The pullback follows profit-taking after strong year-to-date performance and rising investor questions about the sustainability of hyperscaler AI capital spending at current levels.
Comments from major technology company executives triggered the sector-wide pressure. Broadcom's chief executive stated that capital access, rather than chip supply, now represents the main constraint on AI infrastructure growth. Intel's chief executive pointed to higher borrowing costs and uncertain returns on AI investments as additional concerns.
The remarks reached a market already concerned about high valuations in the optical sector. The 2026 OCP Global Summit, where Lumentum joined Astera Labs and Corning to demonstrate PCIe-over-optics technology for AI rack-scale connectivity, did not provide a boost to shares.
Analyst views have become more mixed, with some pointing to demanding valuations following the stock's approximately 164% gain in 2026.
