Italy and US to sign AI supply chain agreement on Friday

Investing.com -- Italy and the United States will sign a cooperation agreement on Friday regarding the Pax Silica initiative, which focuses on artificial intelligence supply chains, according to a statement from Italy's foreign ministry released on Wednesday.

The Pax Silica program is a U.S. State Department initiative that brings together allied nations to secure supply chains related to AI. The program covers semiconductors, critical minerals, advanced manufacturing, and AI models.

Ambassador Armando Varricchio and U.S. Ambassador to Italy Tilman Fertitta will sign the agreement on Friday in Brindisi, located in southern Italy.

Italy was originally scheduled to join Pax Silica during a meeting in Miami in June. Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani canceled that trip following a public disagreement between Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and U.S. President Donald Trump. Washington accused Rome of providing limited support in the Iran war.

The Italian ministry stated that the agreement aims to support the growth of these sectors and reduce dependence on exporting countries.
