Iran warns U.S. over Strait of Hormuz shipping interference

July 9, 2026 8:12 AM EDT

Investing.com -- Iran's Revolutionary Guards Navy said Thursday that U.S. military actions and attempts to redirect shipping through the Strait of Hormuz are disrupting the waterway's reopening process and threatening the interests of countries that depend on it.

The Guards stated that transit capacity under Iranian supervision has reached approximately 50% of pre-war levels during the past two weeks. The military force said it is only expanding transit capacity for vessels that receive permits to use routes designated by Iran.

The Revolutionary Guards Navy warned that additional U.S. intervention would result in a "crushing response." The statement also declared that foreigners have no stake in the Strait of Hormuz.

The Guards accused the U.S. of "adventurism and interference" in determining traffic routes through the strategic waterway.
