Iran ties Strait of Hormuz opening to US policy changes

August 11, 2026 1:44 PM EDT

Investing.com -- Iran will keep the Strait of Hormuz closed until the United States changes its behavior and meets Iranian conditions, according to Mohsen Rezaei, Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, who spoke today.

The United States must end the war and unfreeze Iranian funds held overseas, Rezaei said, as quoted by the semi-official Tasnim news agency. Iran has transmitted additional conditions to the United States through mediators, he added.

Rezaei stated that any potential agreement between Iran and Oman regarding transit through the Strait of Hormuz would be separate from the closure of the waterway.
