Google opens pre-orders for AI-powered Googlebook laptops

Investing.com -- Alphabet's Google began accepting pre-orders today for Googlebook, a new line of premium laptops designed for Android users and powered by the company's Gemini artificial intelligence tools.

The laptops start at $899 and will be manufactured by Acer, Asus, Dell, HP and Lenovo. The devices will use Intel or Qualcomm processors and offer battery life of up to 14 hours, according to the company.

The release follows Apple's expansion into lower-priced laptops with its $699 MacBook Neo, creating additional competition in a segment where Chromebook manufacturers have traditionally focused on students and cost-conscious buyers.

Googlebook brings the company's approach to premium laptops with enhanced hardware, AI capabilities and deeper Android integration. The product represents Google's latest effort to create a flagship ChromeOS device following the Pixelbook in 2017 and Pixelbook Go in 2019.

The new laptops feature Gemini tools that assist users with drafting and organizing text, answering questions about on-screen content and continuing tasks started on an Android phone.

The devices combine Android technology with desktop elements from ChromeOS, designed to create smoother transitions between phones and computers.
