Five Below ’priced for perfection’, says Loop Capital

Investing.com -- Loop Capital downgraded Five Below (NASDAQ: FIVE) to Hold from Buy on Tuesday, keeping its $250 price target on the stock, saying the discount retailer's strong run has left little room for further upside.

"Our downgrade is based on current valuation levels as opposed to a more bearish view of the company's fundamentals," analyst Anthony Chukumba wrote, adding that the firm's bullish fundamental outlook "is largely priced in at current levels."

The stock is up 39% year to date, well ahead of the S&P 500's 12% gain over the same period, and trades just below its all-time high and 5% above Loop Capital's target.

The firm said it was impressed by better-than-expected first-quarter results and raised full-year guidance, and remains constructive on the near-term picture given the ongoing "squish" trend.

It also noted that merchandising-driven turnarounds typically last longer than investors expect, pointing to nascent initiatives including more items priced above $5 and a deeper push into licensed merchandise.

At 29.3 times Loop Capital's fiscal 2026 diluted earnings estimate, the shares trade in line with their five-year average multiple, leaving upside potential and downside risk fairly balanced.

The firm flagged second-quarter results due next week, reminding investors that the stock sold off sharply after the first-quarter release, a sign, it said, that the shares were "priced for perfection."
