EchoStar stock climbed 7.5% in morning trading on Wednesday as Zacks Research upgraded the stock to "strong buy," adding to momentum from JPMorgan's double upgrade issued on October 16.
JPMorgan raised its rating on EchoStar from Underweight to Overweight and set a $144 price target. The bank's analysts said the company trades at approximately a 40% discount to its estimated net asset value. They cited the completed $43 billion spectrum sale to AT&T and SpaceX as a transformative event that reduced balance-sheet risk and created new opportunities for capital return.
A Seeking Alpha analysis published on October 19 supported the view that EchoStar's SpaceX deal could unlock value despite ongoing operational challenges. JPMorgan identified additional potential catalysts including further spectrum monetization and the possibility of share repurchases starting earlier than market expectations.
Lancaster Investment Management increased its EchoStar position by 18.5% during the third quarter, making ECHO its largest holding. The consensus analyst price target currently sits at $138.56.
