Anthropic adds Claude integration to Google Workspace apps

Investing.com -- Anthropic announced Tuesday that its Claude artificial intelligence assistant now works with Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides through a new add-on and connectors available in public beta.

The Claude for Google Workspace add-on is available on all paid Claude plans. The integration allows users to access Claude through a sidebar that appears next to open files, eliminating the need to switch between applications or browser tabs.

The AI assistant can read documents, spreadsheets, and presentations, view selected text or cells, and make direct edits within files. In Google Docs, Claude can modify individual sentences or headings while preserving existing formatting. For larger revisions, the system presents suggested changes as cards in the sidebar that users can approve or reject.

In Google Sheets, Claude can create formulas, build pivot tables and charts, and add new tabs. The assistant can also process data using Python for tasks like joins or data cleaning and write results back into spreadsheets.

For Google Slides, Claude can create new slides using a deck's existing layouts and themes. The system can identify formatting issues such as overlapping elements or text readability problems.

Users can choose between two modes: "Ask before edits" requires approval for each change, while "Accept all edits" allows Claude to complete tasks without stopping for confirmation.

When users sign in with their Claude account, the sidebar provides access to the same models, connectors, and skills available in the main Claude application. Enterprise plan customers retain access to existing security controls including the Compliance API, customer-managed encryption keys, and OpenTelemetry audit export.

Anthropic also released Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides connectors in beta, which enable Claude to create and edit Google files directly from the Claude chat interface. The system's access to files matches existing Google sharing permissions.

The add-on is available through the Google Workspace Marketplace. Domain administrators can deploy it across their organization or to selected groups through the Google Admin console.
