Algeria severs diplomatic relations with UAE

Investing.com -- Algeria has cut diplomatic ties with the United Arab Emirates, state media reported Thursday, citing the exhaustion of all means to preserve bilateral relations. The government did not provide specific reasons for the decision.

Algerian media outlets have previously criticized the UAE, accusing the country of attempting to create regional discord.

Last year, Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune said his country maintained warm relations with all Gulf states except one, in an apparent reference to the UAE. He described ties with Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman and Qatar as brotherly, while accusing an unnamed country of interfering in Algeria's internal affairs and attempting to destabilize it.

Tensions between the two nations increased in February, when Algeria started the process of cancelling an air services agreement with the UAE that was signed in Abu Dhabi in May 2013.
