Twitter (NYSE: TWTR) might be looking to expand the amount of characters it allows per post, but one Chinese company already beat it to the punch.
According to the WSJ, Weibo (Nasdaq: WB) is moving to allow users to use more characters per post, which comes following speculation that Twitter might allow the use of up to 10,000 characters.
Weibo is only planning to increase its limit to 2,000 characters. The company sent a memo to developers with the plans on Wednesday.
Some market watchers have noted that, while the expanded character limit might be good for desktop users, mobile users might find it a challenge to type so much and will revert back to taking and posting screenshots of longer text.
Weibo is a unit of SINA Corporation (Nasdaq: SINA).
