Wal-mart (WMT) Plans Big iPhone 6/6+ Sale This Weekend (AAPL)

December 11, 2014 2:27 PM EST

Wal-mart (NYSE: WMT) might be cutting prices on one of the most-popular smartphones on the market soon.

According to BGR, Wal-mart will sell Apple's (Nasdaq: AAPL) iPhone 6 for $129, or $127 at Sam's Club. The iPhone 6 Plus will run $229 at Wal-mart and $227 at Sam's Club. Both phones will require a two-year contract for the deal, as might be expected. The sale is slated to go into effect on December 13th.

The iPhone 5s will sell for $49/$47 at Wal-mart/Sam's Club.

The Wal-mart prices will stay in effect for more than a month.

It isn't clear why Wal-mart is implementing the steep price cuts, though it will also trim the price of Samsung's Galaxy S5 $79 at Wal-mart or $77 at Sam's Club, so it isn't an iPhone-specific deal.

Sharees of Apple are up 0.8 percent.
