Verizon (VZ) to Shutter Venerable Apps Store in January 2013

At least, Verizon won't be able to respond come January, when it plans to shut down its Verizon Apps store. The move comes as pressure from Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) Play, Apple's (Nasdaq: AAPL) AppStore, and other continues to mount, with Verzion selling fewer and fewer apps in the process.
In a blog post today, Verizon said it expects the move to be completed by March 27, 2013." The company noted that it is "evolving [its] strategy to further simplify today’s experience and meet the needs of tomorrow."
Verizon started its app store in March 2010 with Vcast Apps.
Shares of Verizon are down just over 1 percent on the session Monday.
