Taco Bell (YUM) Looks to Attract 'Millennials' With New, Healthier Menu

Yum! Brands' (NYSE: YUM) Taco Bell is moving back into healthier fare.

The menu, dubbed "Power Protein," will have a small testing market in Dayton, Ohio, starting July 25th. Items on the menu will include chicken and steak burritos and "bowls," four items in total. Zero-calorie drinks from Pepsi (NYSE: PEP) will also be on trial.

AdAge describes the Power Protein Chicken Burrito (PPCB) as containing thus: "a double portion of chicken or steak, plus romaine lettuce, roasted-corn-and-pepper salsa, pico de gallo, guacamole and reduced fat sour cream."

In a conference call with reporters on Tuesday, Taco Bell CEO Greg Creed said that it was a step in the direction to attract more "millennials" to the chain.

Items will not be part of the upscale and pricier "Cantina" menu, Creed noted.

Should testing go well, Creed expects the "Power Protein" menu to rollout nationwide sometime in 2014. Shares of Yum! are up 0.2 percent Wednesday.
