Steve Jobs Death Could Trigger a Star-Like Sales Spike

Something that may have never happened in corporate-icon history could very well happen upon the passing of Apple's (Nasdaq: AAPL) Steve Jobs... increased sales from the buzz surrounding his death.

Normally when a pop star or movie star dies you will see a spike in sales of albums and DVDs. You wouldn't normally expect this upon the death of a company executive. However in the case of Steve Jobs it may be different. He is an icon, a star, THE man.

The buzz his death has created has been nothing short of remarkable. Nearly every major CEO and dignitary has weighed in on his death. Not to mention the millions of fans.

This is just one Twitter comment which could suggest the "do it for Steve" purchase could be in effect:

"I was going to put off the purchase of that iPhone 4S, but in honor of Steve Jobs now I'm going to buy it."

It will be interesting to see if iPhone 4S sales exceed expectations when pre-orders start Friday, October 7 and it launches in stores Friday, October 14.
